You can peel the GSP off it grows in a mat and is fairly easy to remove. Mine was doing the same thing

I dont really interfere that much anymore. Besides, Digging around in a zoa colony is about my least fav thing to do....always makes your hands tingle from the palytoxins. Met a guy that has permanent heart damage from zoo juice a few months ago.

Rubber gloves, i never go into my tank without them That toxin is no joke
