I have a DSB plenum in my 75 gal. I have about 2in of sand but Everyone is telling me too ditch this filter. I don't understand how this will eventually dill my tank. One of my friends has a very well setup 100 gal reef tank and it has been running with a plenum for years, he suggested the plenum to me so I went ahead and took advice from his expertise. Everyone is telling me to ditch it and I certainly will if it isnt needed, and if it will kill my tank in the long run. TIA

I really need some advice on whether I should ditch the plenum or not/ TIA.

your talking about a undergravel filter right??
do a search on the general fourm and there should be info on them.
I never had one but know people who have and they said they had problems with high nitrates. The reason is that waste gets trapped under the filter. Having LR and coral in the tank there is no way to clean under the filter unless you break the tank down.
In SW with a sand bed there is no reason to have a UGF.
