I'm just having a terrible hair algea problem...

Lol, I thought you had a real problem. Just darken the tank for a couple days. I used an old beach towel to cover mine.

Darkening, not effective... I have tried everything. This stuff is mean.

What fish do you have in the tank? Is it planted? Try cutting back on the amount of food you give the fish. Ramshorn snails will eat some of the Hair Algae. Do you vacuum out all uneaten food? The algae feeds off of left over food. :?

Saltwater with corals, LR....

Lol I know it`s a year later.
Still having algae problems? High Phosphates or high nitrates could cause hair algae. Go to Tony`s tropical fish and birds. I`m sure he has something to lower the phosphates.

Problem is under control now... I have an Ro/Di unit now.
