adding a small powerhead to my FW

hey I was plannign on adding a small powerhead to my 55 gallons just like a 175gph and wonderign it it better to hand it on the top or to stick it on the bottom and let the water run low on the tank?
 
Put it midway! That way your fish can go below to escape the current when they want to, and you still have some surface agitation. I want to get a powerhead going too....
 
Powerheads provide additional water flow in your tank, that's it. Helps keep good surface agitation on your surface as well.

A 175 gph one would be fine. Or maybe you can get two smaller ones and put it on each side of the tank?
