I would like to add calcium (the same type that you add to reef tanks) to my planted tank that has snails in it. I see some etching of the snail shells and in the past I have had a problem with them being able to maintain there shells. I already have cc in the tank filter, and I do feed foods that are rich in calcium, however my snails don't seem to care to dine on it.

Has anyone ever done this? It would be for a 55 g tank, any advice on how much to add?

I am pretty sure that adding calcium isn't going to hurt anything in the tank, however I would prefer not to have to experiment with it if someone else has some experience with it.
