Hello Everyone,

I was thinking of adding some shrimp to my community tank, but I know absolutely nothing about them. Are the brightly colored species less robust than any others? Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
D

I have some amano shrimp in my tank, and they aren't bright at all, but they're pretty fun to watch.

It depends what you already have in the tank, they may just become snacks!

Must... Resist... MTS!!

The key to shrimp is enough numbers to keep a sustainable colony (10+) and lots of hiding places so they are not all picked off by fish.

Also very stable water, invertebrates don't handle swings in parameters well.

I have a fairly well planted tank that has well established water parameters. It's a peaceful community tank and is stocked with:
Harlequin Rasboras
Orange Neon Tetras
Julii catsfish,
Male guppies
1 Dwarf Gourami
an Albino Pleco
and two male GBRs,
3 Mollies that the pet store gave me as fry and are grown now.

I can't imagine any of those picking on shrimp other than the Gourami or GBRs.
Would the shrimp be safe with those fish? They're all very small except for the Gourmai, Pleco and GBRs.

Most of those fish will eat some shrimplets. But like mr coolguy said, lots of hiding places. That way done survive to grow the colony. My cherries are multiplying fast and the peacock gudgeons definitely have some high protein snacks.
