algae eater

I have 2 chinese algae eaters, and one got bacteria infection, I treated him with epson salt, to get rid of his bloating and that helped alot, but then he had signs of sores on him, then I took him over to the pet store, and she recommend medication, and I did, and he is doing well, except for a little bit of sores, so I hope its not coming back, has anyone experience this. Now that I have an elephant nose, I know they are sensitive to medication, so if he is getting the bacteria again, I don't know what to do, because I don't want my elephant to be sick
