I've seen a thread a while back, cannot seem to find it.

Anyways, my Aqueon 5575 filters on my larger tank have these blue "bio-grid" inserts that are strong and ridged I just cut the filter floss to size and it fits snugly into it. My marineland filters do not have this ridged plastic piece, does anyone have any good ideas about getting filter media into these without buying their pads?

You can place bio balls or ceramic rings in it then on the top of it place a sponge. The sponge would only need to cover the part of the filter that pours out water

Rip off the material from an old cartridge and use rubber bands to attach a new piece.

They also sell clamshell inserts that you can stuff whatever you like in.
