I have an AquaClear 50 filter on my tank and I came home after work the other night and the motor was completely burned out and the filter was totally dry. There was no obstruction in the uptake tube. Any ideas how this could happen? I mean, if the motor just gave out wouldn't the filter still be filled with water? I'm really confused.

No, it doesn't....even with some siphoning, there should have been a couple of inches of water left in the filter....no chance anyone else could have messed with it?

Nope, I even checked the bottom of the filter for leaks and checked the carpet underneath and no water leaked out. Maybe there was some kind of blockage I couldn't see. Luckily I still had my old Penguin filter.
