I have a giant chunk of floating driftwood in my 29gal, well my crabs have taken home in it.

The problem is, I hate the thing, and I want to take it out. However I'm not sure how to safely evict my crabby residents from their top floor suite.

I don't want to kill them, I just want to safely evict them so I can put them back in the tank..

if crabs can swim just lift the thing out of the water a little bit (if their like fish) theyll swim out because of insecurity (IF)

No, Krap.

They'll burry themselves deeper into the driftwood.

Crabs instinctivly withdraw into a burrow when they sense something amiss.

Put some food in another container (I guess sort of a hidey place) to draw them out and grab the driftwood?
