There is a suggestion to cover your aquarium for 36-48 hrs here. Simply to not let any light into the tank for that period of time and the Ick will die off.

What do you guys think of that? Would the fish starve to death? I guess the plants would take the biggest hit but 36-48 hours might even kill them I would think.

Cheers,
Rob

Naw, the fish won't starve in 48 hrs. My betta at work goes each weekend without feedings and he's a healthy pig.

It won't do a thing for ich either IMHO. Ich doesn't need light to survive, just a host. If one wants to treat without meds, high temps or salt will work. I have a feeling that treatment is actually to rid the tank of green algae...and the guy does say he's never actually tried it, just heard it from "a friend".

I'm sorry but i can't see how darkness would kill off the ich, even in darkness they would still have a host to feed off.
If somebody can prove to me that it works i will eat my hat, i think that i will stick to high temps and salt.

On one of my ICH meds it says to keep the lights off, but I do not think it is for the per say. I think it was more for the medication and maybe some sort of ineffectiveness with light?? Just my guess.
