Need help with a DIY waterfall

I want to go with a half land half BW tank and I would like to have the filter output be a waterfall.

2 Questions:

1) Can anyone recommend a filter type to make this? (Power, canister)

2) Any special filter media i should use for BW?

Ur talking about a bio-wheel right u could take the wheel off if ur trying to do what I did and dont worry if its to close to light extra light never did anything bad to my java moss
