Yeah, rams are not destructive to plants at all. They don't really use caves all that much, but do sleep on the bottom. Mine almost never hide. All rams are different. The same can be said with most cichlid species. Its hard to generalize a species, as they are highly intelligent fish. I had a german blue ram that terrorized all my other fish! They're supposed to me peaceful! My bolivians are super calm.

Ok guys im going to start a daily log of my ph. I usually do weekly checks and i will start daily. I also have co2 will that make a difference? Its a diy system.
