New Fish Tank No Fish

Hey all,

I've recently started a new fish tank last Wednesday have set it up cleaned gravel, plants and ornaments etc.. Put filter and heater on and the water went cloudy but seems to be clearing up.. But today I've noticed there seems to be white flakey bits floating around and a saliva like substance gathering around on the water line on the top? Is this normal?

Kinda sounds like a bacterial bloom it should clear on it's own.

It will be just general scum from the gravel. Even when you wash it well, you can leave dust in there. it should eventually clear. I have seen this many times.

Please tell me you didn't use that hideous multi-coloured gravel?
