Yes, it is to small for that goldfish. He's gonna get huge and idealy should be in a pond. Give him back to the lfs. I'm sure someone else would love to have him and be able to put him in an appropiate size tank/pond.
 
I agree with fluff. A 10 gallon is too small for ANY goldfish. Even your friends 29 gallon is too small long term. Goldfish get big and they are filtration nightmares.
