This may be a stupid question but I do not want to compromise my fish thus asking before I follow my own very stubborn head. Can I add plants from a rather fast flowing freshwater stream to my tank after washing them of properly? And if I can, how would you treat them before going into the tank.?

Dustin's Fish Tanks on Youtube has a video of him incorporating "wild" plants into his aquarium. Look up Dustin Fish tanks "Ghetto aquarium" video. He talks about using very diluted bleach to help clean wild plants.
I think it would be risky introducing them right away into a tank with fish if you don't use the bleach method. I would plant your plants in a quarantine tank first and see how they do before adding them directly to your main tank with the fish. Rinsing them well is always a good start though!
