Platties are opportunistic snail eaters

As a point of interest, my two little platties have eaten the right eyestalk, and greater feeler off my black apple snail. I'm not entirely sure but I think they got part of his breather tube too and since he's a he probably his sexual bits as well *ouch*. They've also pecked a good part of his shell away on that side towards the normal opening. They aren't underfed and they have a varied diet. I think they reason they are doing it is over-crowding (planning a 20 gal).

The good thing is if he survives it'll all grow back but poor snail. And they are actually eating it....they aren't spitting him back out.

I knew fish would oppotunisticly eat anything that would fit in their mouths but the snail is bigger than they are 8O
 
lol possibly so.... still surprised me....it'd be great if they kept it up when the inevitable small ones start showing up.
