Prolly a stupid question, but

I'm going to ask it anyway. I'm thinking of starting a new 55 gal FW tank. I have a friend who's going to be breaking down a SW tank, and wondered if I got his filter media while still wet, could I use it in the filter of the 55 gallon to help seed the tank? Or would the higher pH and SG of the SW be a fatal mistake in a FW tank?

Diff nitrifying bacteria; wouldn't work if you're thinking of using that media to cycle your tank.
