red claw crab set up

I have every thing set up for my red claw crab, but i need to know would a pile of shells that reach the surface work or would they just fall???????????????????????????????????

they might crumble overtime. something sturdier like wood or rock would be better!

yes it is i bought a new tank and made it brackish
