I've had gravel in my tanks but thinking of switching to sand....anyone have experience with sand? I have a discus tank of that helps with live plants.

There are TONS of sand vs gravel threads. I would encourage you to search the forum.
Many people on here use sand and love it. I'd say the majority of people use and love it. Myself included

Sand! Hands down! I have a 75 gallon mixed African cichlid tank and started out with gravel and now have Tahitian moon sand and I along with my fish love it.
Easier to clean IMO... But it boils down to preference in the end....

Here is Garnet Sand, made from the mining of Star Garnets in Idaho a new addition for me in the last month.

Here is a pretty decent close up of Eco-Complete, if you might want to venture into planted tanks.
Construction Sand by Kwikrete - medium construction sand / Nice but too white for a planted tank for my uses. Just am in the middle of changing it to the garnet sand.
Petco Black sand / water was cloudy as it was just rescaped at the time of the pic!

Same with this which is CaribSea Supernaturals, was stunning with artificial plants then just couldn't keep it at a level I wanted as I kept getting grains of black sand in it too from using the same Vac after I planted it
