Going to have mostly guppies and will get some shrimp.

What kind of filter should I get? I want an external one but have never had one before. I've looked at fluvals but they're pricey.

If I were to get a fluval would one for a 40 gal be too much power/flow?

shoot for around 200 gallons per hour or more. fluvals are expensive, but they are very nice. i would go with a fluval 305

Fluval 206 would be perfect.

Agreed, I have a fluval 206 on a 36g BF and love it. I have a fluval 406 on a 65 gallon and an fx6 on a 75 gallon, needless to say I like their filters haha. A 206 would do a great job on your 20g and will be cheaper and more compact than a 306, you don't really need that much anyway

Thanks guys ill look for a 206! What did you guys pay for yours?

Paid $99 shipped on eBay for a new one. I think they're around $120 on Amazon.
