Did you know that scallop shells and clam shells placed in water dramatically improve water clarity!!!

Try it, put a pickle jar of murky ugly water and place a scallop or clam shell inside it, 24 hours later the water will be crystal clear!!!

Hi something_fishy,

Any idea if it affects the water chemistry :?:

As an experiment, I tried adding crushed coral and it raised the pH, GH and KH. See my thread below.

I wonder what the shells will do in the long run?
I would assume that they slowly dissolve and raise the pH, KH and GH.

Any thoughts? Anyone?

Definitely, they will do that. Waaaayyy back when I was a newbie, I put a clam shell and a sand dollar skelteton in a fw tank, the sand dollar disolved to the point of disintegration in 2-3 months.
