I nabbed a thirty gallon tank, hood, light, heater and filter in one package for like half if not less of what all of that would be.

It is very common for people to take fish that grow large to a lfs after a long time of ownership. This is something discussed around here all the time so don't be surprised. A pleco, a moor, a common, an oscar, whatever it is, fish that get very large often need to be re-homed..especially when the owner did not know they grew that large at the time of purchase.

Yes I had a pair of kissing gourami in my community tank about a year ago and I had to take them back for rehoming thru my lfs. They got to be 4-5 in each and were so fun to watch but just needed a bigger home!

Yeah, I typically prefer "rehoming" rather than "returning" because you can get to know the person and their set up. There's a good chance the LFS will sell it to someone worse, lol. The typical customer at a fish store usually doesn't care as much as the people here on AA do.
