Very soon I will be setting up a 90 gallon tank and I am deciding what fish to put in it.

Some ideas I had were:

I had on oscar fish once so I want to put in one albino oscar, a small school of silver dollars or angelfish or I guess any type of schooling fish(what other schooling fish are there?) and maybe one or two other types of colorfull fish.

or

drop the oscar idea because I know that they need a lot of water and are very messy, but they are intellengent, that is why I like them, but anyway, how many 3-4 in (colorful) fish could I fit in a 90 gallon?

So I either want to have one oscar fish with some type of schooling fish or turn it into a realy cool community tank with a lot of 3-4-5 in fish.

What do you think, any ideas?

Also the tank dimesions are 48 x 18 x 20 somthing, I can't remember what it was exactly. The tank will have two aquaclear 500's for now untill I can afford a canister filter and I would also like to have some plants in it as well.

Thanks in advance :D

How about:
4 angelfish (2 pairs): http://home.earthlink.net/~photofish/fish_photos/Angelpair2.jpg

4 Blue Ram (2 pairs): http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/img/ram5.jpg

a school of 6 Bosemani Rainbowfish: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewtopic.php?t=28378

a school of 10 congo tetras: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewtopic.php?t=28484

3 opaline gourami: http://badmanstropicalfish.com/profiles/profile84.html
-or- (you can't keep both opaline and dwarf together)
4 Dwarf gourami: http://www.fishpalace.org/C_lalia.html

As for catfish, a type of fancy Pleco?

you see that is a very scaled version of my 500gal S.A biotope community tank that sits on a stand in my head.

I show it to everyone

thats not 90 gallons with those measurements. Its more like 75. are you sure your numbers are right?

blucat, that is a fantastic mix!! I may have to use some of those suggestions for my 90....

You could put all that in a 90 gallon tank?
That is like 30 fish? I didn't think that you could fit that many fish in there without overstocking.

Oh and by the way about my tank dimensions it is 48 x 18 x like 24? I can't remember but it is a 90 gallon

Thanks for all the ideas so far

:D

When you have a larger tank, you don't have to worry about overstocking as much as you would with a smaller tank. With a smaller tank it is harder to keep the water parameters balanced than it is with a larger tank.

in my 75gal I have 21 fish and I plan on adding 3 or 4 more

I love angel fish as well as blue rams...
Some other options you have are marble hatchets or silver hatchets
cory cats etc etc

Another option-
2 angels
4 rams
a school of 8-10 tetras (I like the serpaes)
6 marble hatchets
A school of cories ( I like the swartz and the pandas)
2 or 3 dwarf gouramis

and then if you wanted to you can add fish that don't have to be in schools (and sometimes are suggested to be solitare) like a red-tail black shark, or one or two golden barbs/odessa barbs etc etc

Also, someone please correct me if im wrong... but oscars are more or less for species only tanks. Im pretty sure the oscar would eat the angel in a heart beat

There are lots of different fish that can go with oscars, but most of the time it just depends on the aggresivness of that individual oscar.

And I have heard people that have had angels with oscars and some hav got along fine and some have got eaten.

If I wanted to put in and oscar then whta would you suggest?

Would this work?

1 oscar
1 severum
4-5 silver dollars

Can I add more or is this too much?
