Substrate Mixing

My tank currently has a bottom layer of plant substrate(sand) and a top layer of gravel. Should I leave them layerd, or will the plants benifit more if the substrates are mixed?

I would not mix them. The sand will just work its way back down anyway.

They'll mix over time regardless of what you do.

Also, just plain playsand? that's not really a 'plant substrate'. We reserve that term for true plant specialty substrates like eco-complete or fluorite.
