I have one of the little suction-cup mercury thermometers in my 10g QT up at the front. It always reads 78-80 degrees in there. The highs are when the lights are on, which are about 6" from the surface. Lows are after prolonged lights-off or during a PWC.

The room the QT is in, is always 74-76 degrees and has a lot of air movement. I'm trying to figure out why the water doesn't go below 78-80, even with the lights off, when the room is cooler than that. Could my dual HOBs be generating heat? Faulty thermometer? I'm stumped. It's not a huge issue, but I'd prefer to keep it at 76.

Thanks.

why 76? My tanks are all at 78. The only exception I would see is goldfish, but that's far too small for them. FWIW, I had a 30g that wasn't heated and stayed at 78 religiously.
