What do cory catfish like better? Sand or rocks

Corys like sand, but you can keep them with grave. Many recourses say that the gravel can make their mouths raw, inviting infection, but i've almost always kept them with gravel and had no problems whatsoever. It really depends upon your preference. If you want la more natural look, and want live plants, then go with sand. If not, then go with gravel.

I've kept them with both, I find they are more active in the sand IME/IMO

I don't keep shrimp myself, however I would think they do as they can root around in it plus I've seen them on sand in the LFS

I changed half of my tank from gravel to sand and the cories hang out on the sand mostly. They root around in it in a really cute way. So my cories def prefer the sand! I personally don't think that shrimp care - either way they can find little pieces of food stuck in crevices or a plant and that is what seems to make them happy!
