what fish hang around the surface?

Hachets are nice schooling community fish that are pretty and hover around the surface.

Rainbows, hatchets, african butterfly come to mind. They tend to be jumpers too; make sure the top is completely covered to avoid finding dried critters on the floor.

I find my danio's tend to hang around the top a lot. Glo-fish danios have the same behaviors so that might be an option too.

my dwarf gourami always hung around the top 1/3 of the tank.

I second the zebra danios, mine spend 90% of their time in the top 2 " of the tank.

I have garden muskien Killi's they are surface fish. I mean right at the surface. That's why they have flat heads. LOL

gourami tend to live in the top half of the aquarium, spending a lot of time at the surface since they are a labyrinth fish.

my killifish hang around the top... here is a tip... if a fish has a mouth on the bottom of its face, it typically stays toward the bottom, if the mouth is in the center, it stays in the center, if the mouth is on the top facing up, it usually stays toward the top.
