I've heard a lot lately that putting using carbon as part of your media filtration is bad. I don't use it, but am still not sure WHY its bad?

I use it and my fish are fine don't worry about it:
;)

Don't know why it would be bad...maybe they didn't change it out and it became mush? It absorbs toxins and color, making the water clean and clear.

Carbons not bad. Clears water, removes water discoloration and odors. Carbon should be changed every month, though. If using chemipure, can be changed very 2-3 months. It not an absolute necessity, some people don't use it at all.

Carbon isn't bad. It just isn't needed in your filter as your "everyday" filtration IMO. I'd only use it when removing meds, odors, ect.
