Here is the cheapest portable unit that's good, I used it myself for over a year.

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

It's a decent entry level unit, I had mine attached to my garden hose and put the unit away when not in use.

It produces perfectly pure water so it fits the bill! lol

I changed out my ebay units filters every 6 months, they cost like $30. The membrane on both units is good for like 2-3 years so youre good on that part.
