Ok i have had a saltwater tank for about 2 years now> but i have never used a sump!! i want to know if there is a reason that someone can give me that my leathers could not live in my sump. There is at least 12" of water in a standard 29gal at all times. I will be putting a compact light on the sump to grow the spaghetti algae any way!! It is just too hard and expensive to put a reef light on the main tank (for many reasons) and i dont want to get rid of the leathers!! well what opinions do you have!!

Are you making your main tank a fish only? If so I personally see no problem. It's basically making two tanks into one except you have your corals in your smaller tank! JMO!

as long as you have enough light you will be fine. I keep my sun coral in my sump for the exact reason that it has no light but opposite is fine.
check this out.
