Talking

ok, so my Ammonia just tested 3-2ppm, Nitrites were between 1-2ppm and Nitrate showed 20ppm (sorry, except for Nitrate I just have a hard time deciding on the definit color).

The lights, stand, shield, powerheads (2x 1040) should arrive this week
I'm getting paid this friday so I will order light bulbs. I will go with the combination recommended by Mr X in a different post but also order 2-3 more bulbs to see if I wanna adjust the set up to something more different. I'm a very visual person (except when it comes to water testing apparently ) and I need to see an end result before I know if I like a combination or not... hours of reading on it didnt really enlighten me (pun intended)

Also gonna start ordering the macro algae, think its time

The end is coming closer! I'm so excited!!!

are you still dosing ammonia to keep your cycle going?

we ordered the Sunlight Supply Tek 8 bulb system because I am hoping to have some SPSs at one point

the recommended combo by Mr X in this thread was:
ATI Blue Plus
ATI 12000K Aquablue
ATI Blue plus
KZ Fiji Purple (this can be replaced with ATI purple plus)
GE 6500K Daylight (you can keep one of the bulbs that come with the fixture for this)
ATI Blue plus
UV Lighting 10000K AquaSun
ATI Blue plus

I am not going with the ATI Purple plus because here they are recommending the KZ Fiji Purple
That page actually has this recommendation for a 8 bulb system with SPSs:
6 x ATI Blue Plus, 1 Fiji Purple, and 1 Pure Actinic. In my SPS system I replaced the pure actinic with an ATI Aquaspezial.
Kinda sounds blue-ish to me so i'm slightly worried
I will go with a combination of both and see how it works out
Maybe Mr X can give me a hint how I can figure it out

And yes, I will be adding ammonia otherwise the bacteria will starve
This is a good page to read up on fishless cycles

HAHAHA i wish! My boyfriend payed for those as we are splitting the cost for the tank: He buys the light, I buy the bulbs and do the research work, maintenance etc... (as I would never have him touch the tank due to his deathly touch)
I got lucky that my boyfriend got interested in the hobby once I moved in and dragged my aquarium with me (and the other 4-legged critters)

the light fixture wasnt cheap BUT still reasonable considered what else is out there. It is almost impossible to find something for 60' tanks so craigslist & ebay was out of the questions

Very curious about which light combo you go with and what both look like.

Couple more days and you can start moving your smaller tank over?

I think i got into fish because of sweety pie too. It's been so nice because it gives us something to do together and she doesn't mind leaving the house from time to time to look at fish stuff with me. I never knew I would have enjoyed fish so much. I fought the first tank. Free from her lil brother, the same one that became broken last night.
