IME heater temperature settings are notoriously inaccurate, that is, the temps stamped on the dial in relation to the real temp.

If you have a good mercury thermometer you can trust that, and subsequently ignore the heater stampings. Almost all heaters I have come across are inaccurate numbers wise but the thermostats will hold the temps well, within .5 F.

My SW has been at 80 but with more research (Thanks to folks at AA for great articles and posts) I am going to raise to around 82 F.

But that's just me. :D

I have the temp on my heater set to 82F. It fluctuates during the day from 80-82 at its highest.

I think you will find that a lot of our members have their reef tanks around the 80F mark or so.
