Yesterday i started to cycle my tank with just peices of dead shrimp...well first off i put a little to much in so it smelled like a freakin sushi shop in my house and then today i checked the ammonia and it was off the charts!!! My test goes to about 1.0 or so and thats like a green color...well my test turn out almost blue. Well i guess that ok but i was plannin on havin fish here pretty soon but guess ill have to wait. Just thought i would let people know you are going to cycle with shrimp have plenty of candles and a window close to air it out!

I used household ammonia to start my cycle. Much less stinky 8)

I second the household ammonia. Smell is gone as soon as you close the bottle.

I use the fishless cycle and just wait it out.
Didnt like the idea of adding chemicals to my tank(ammonia) and dont care for the stinky shrimp method.

How can the tank cycle without a source of ammonia?
