In the process of getting my 29 reef tank together. Got 5lbs of live rock and 22 lbs of dry rock. The dry rock I bought off of Craig's list and the guy i bought it from said it only has been out of the tank for a day. Lot of purple on some of the rock so guessing still some live stuff on it. Right now I have it in a Home Depot bucket full of sw with the live rock a heater and power head since sat. Still waiting for 40lbs of sand and reef crystals to arrive. Is my bacteria working now in the bucket. Should I add bottled bacteria or raw shrimp or wait till I put it in tank. How will I know if it is alive. Should I have light in bucket or lid on?

Not a pro but, think you should put something in it so the BB has. Something to feed on. Like shrimp or fish pellets. I assume that a cycle is already started.

But wait for someone with more knowledge replies.
