Question about precipitation?

So I understand that excessive calcium will cause it what I don't know is the specifics of what it is? I was told it is caused by molecules bonding but you are going to have to explain it in kindergarten language for me.

Your alkalinity and calcium levels are important to the growth of coral skeletons. The skeleton is made of calcium and the alkalinity (carbonate hardness) is the glue. Both levels will decrease over time by coral growth. That's why people dose these elements. If you dump both doses at the same time in the same location in the tank it will cause it to precipitate. Think of
It like tar and feathers, dump the tAr immediately followed by the feathers and you have a mess. If you let the tar harden(in this case the carbonate dissipating in the water column) then dump the feathers (calcium) it won't stick together.

And exactly what I did but vise versa in accordance to my directions. Thanks for the analogy I understand now.
