OK ... Stupid question. The tank has just been set up and the sand is settling ... water is already clearer. But I've noticed some areas on the live rock where the sand has settled thickly. So after it clears should I give it a gentle brushing?

I had the same thing happen I brushed my rocks with a toothbrush to get all the sand off plus i figured it would take and dead stuff off that I didn't brush off before I put my rocks in to cure. Brushing the rocks wont harm them as long as you don't scrub them too much with say a wire brush just a nice soft brush should do the trick.

Or even just put your hand in there and make current to move it off the rock.

Turkey baster is an easy way to get the sand off the rock. If you already have everything aranged in your tank scrubbing with a brush could cause problems. Squirt some water at the sand.
