My name is Christen and I have a 30 gallon tank. I have had my tank for 3 years and I have had small fish - mollies, platies, small tiger barbs and ghost shrimp. I have the same fish I had when I got the tank, but the numbers have dwindled from about 15 to 4! My sister has a tank of Jack Dempseys which just had over 200 (yikes) babies. She is trying to get rid of them and wants to give me some. How can I handle this? Do I just take the babies and then as they grow older move them or my other fish into another tank? Any advice?

Sometimes your LFS will give credit for fish fry. Having too many in any tank will be a disaster for all. The Jack Dempsey is a pretty big fish and needs space and may get aggresive toward the smaller fish as it matures.

Thanks - but since i am such a newbie and not hip to all the fish lingo - what are LFS??????

Sorry about that. Local Fish Store. most prefer to get fish fry locally because they are usually healthier and cheaper. Plus the credit you get you can buy stuff to upgrade your setup or buy a seperate one for the Jack Dempsey's

That is a great idea - I'll call and check it out. Thanks a bunch.
