Hi there,
So I'm currently doing a fishless cycle on a 10 gallon tank. I started about 2 weeks ago, I dosed the ammonia up to 4ppm, about two days ago I tested and the ammonia read 1ppm, and nitrites read about 0.25 ppm. So I dosed the ammonia back up to 4ppm. When I tested the water today the ammonia still read 4ppm but the nitrites had dropped to 0. And nitrates are also at 0. I thought with the cycle the nitrites are supposed to build up higher than that, any ideas about what could be happening? Thank you!

Do not re-add Ammonia until it reaches zero and do not leave it at zero for more than 24 hours.

What more likely happened is: the bacteria that consumes Ammonia to convert it to Nitrites may have gotten disturbed by the additional Ammonia.
