So I've decided to take the plunge on setting up a 7.8 gal tank (size according to aqua advice) for Endler's Livebearers. I have my tank, a filter, gravel, two fake plants, and some driftwood that I just found. It's going to take me a while to create this tank because I'm DIYing the driftwood, for my first time ever. Thought that I'd post this on here just to hear some advice as I'm going along so that I don't totally mess up everything and hopefully everything will turn out right:)

Nice tank. DIYing DW? I've never heard of that sounds interesting. I'll be following, good luck!

Thanks, I've read some forums and some articles about the driftwood... But I'm going to double all the time just incase ;)

Today I was a busy girl with my tank:). I got rocks, some plants (fake), a bell, cut my driftwood, boiled my rocks, and baked/ing my driftwood. I'm going to go check out some more pet stores for a few more loose ends that I need. Doubt I'll do anything tomorrow cause I get to go volunteer at the number one zoo in America:D Any comments or questions are welcomed!

I love the petsmart that is by my house! It is clean and there are NO dead fish:) plus the people are very helpful and pretty much said everything that I've read around here just to test them... And they passed! I got a tester there and just looked at the fish and plants for a good 15 mins:)

One thing come to mind immediately. Endler's breed, and breed, and breed... They don't eat their fry, so a small tank will become crowded rather quickly. Fast-growing live plants like Najas or duckweed would be helpful for the water quality.

I love endlers, they are great little fish. Like toddnbecka said, they will breed if you get both genders. I'd recommend just getting males so your tank doesn't get too crazy.

Yeah at my pet store that I'm going to get the Endler's only has males. I'm getting them from aquarium adventures they only have 3 different locations 2 in Illinois and 1 in Columbus Ohio, where I live.

I was going to get Najas because they were at my petsmart and locked really good. Also does anyone know about know about marimo moss? They had a bunch there and I wanted to know a little about if before I got some.

Arg I didn't get anything done today like I thought... Well I guess being at the zoo until 3ish then playing softball with family could cut into that. It turns out that our pressure washer didn't have the connecting piece that we needed so my dad went out and bought a whole new one so hopefully pressure wash the wood and the stones to get everything off then off to soak the wood and partially set up the tank :)

So today I power washed the driftwood and now they are being waterlogged. I set up the fish tank today and it looks good IMO. Going to do some testing on it tomorrow then get cycling going:)
