preferably the norm cichlid ratio of 1m 3f, but then the male will pair up and the other girls may get harrassed or chased off.

the proximus is likely female as it has less red and lighter stripes.

the 2nd looks to be a male and female, as one seems to be slightly rounder and is paler while the other has more prominent stripes and u can just about see the more pointed fins. the one on the left would be the male if thisis right.

The guy at the lfs said that they hadn't started developing their collies yet.

really? how big are they? the looked fairly mature from the photos. but that info gives u an insight for the future anyway x

How big in cm do they need to be before they develop their colour.

should have colouring (most) by now, so that looks like the result or they may get a bit darker with more red on the fins, but i think gender could prob be determined about now

o think its a chilid but i could be wrong ask the pet shop

Do these fish have to have a sand substrate cause my substrate is a fine gravel.

they will be fine with fine gravel. as long as they have a wide flat surface to spawn on and a few caves and plants (fake or real) they will be happy.

sand is preferred but not essential.
