Just got a used 30 gal from my bro in law. How do I clean with vinegar?

I bought my tank on craigslist and it needed a good cleaning. I placed it with the glass down, on a towel and poured enough vinegar to cover the one pane, let it soak for an hour or so then used a razor blade to scrape off the tough built up spots. Then I basically rolled the tank and did the same thing to each side. Hope that makes sense!
