Just picked this up and installed it today ... it is ridiculously LOUD. Im sitting on my living room couch - 2 rooms away - and can hear that buzzing like i was right next to it. This cannot be normal Is there a break-in period with these where it can be noisy for a period of time? or is this thing just defective? Advice based on experience with an issue like this would be appreciated. Thanks.

That doesn't sound right. I have the 4000 running a sponge filter on my fry tank... I can barely hear the thing run. It's the quietest air pump I've seen.
Closing this thread out ... I purchased another topfin 1000 and a tetra whisper 10 pump and tested them both... The topfin was again very loud. The whisper 10 was perfect so I kept it a d retuned the topfin. Can't imagine they're all like that otherwise they'd not sell any! But happy this is now done. Thx.
