I also just noticed some coraline algae has died and been replaced with green algae which never grows on my rocks.

This seems like a long time for corals to be in shock from an overdue bulb replacement.

well, it's not them getting used to the light that we are waiting for now, it's recovering from the shock. that could take some time. as long as they aren't melting away you are doing good IMO.
