My finger leather coral has small black dots that just appeared today.
What is it and what do I do about it? I'm new to reef aquariums.

Can you get a pic of it. Hard to say without seeing it. BTW Welcome to the site

Agreed, a pic would be helpful.

Are they on the "trunk" or where you normally see polyps extended? Were the polyps extended when you saw the black spots or not?

They are not on the trunk. They are where the polyps come out and also appear to be on the tip of the polyps. I touched the affected polyps and when they are completely retracted, there are no black dots. The rest of the coral is extended normally and beautiful.

Mine does the same thing I believe it is just that the polyps aren't fully extended. Keep an eye on it but I don't think you have anything to worry about.
