Good morning all...
I need to set up a QT for some new saltwater fish arrivals. I have an established reef but no seeded sponge material I can use since I use the inTank media basket. I have some, ahem, "dirty" (hey, only by a few days) filter floss and some Chemi-pure elite that has been in the tank for a couple of weeks. The substrate is sand so I am thinking I can add some of that (to the filter? just to the bottom of the tank itself?) to help kick start the QT.
Any advice? I have read several other articles that indicate a true cycle isn't completely necessary; just keep a close eye on things and lots of water changes, buuuuuuuuuuut, I am more inclined to try and get a better environment. Lesson learned, I added some new sponge pieces to my established system so I don't go through this again.
