I bought two red platties about 4 months ago.

Lately, one of them is starting to shrink. She has gotten smaller and smaller.

Additionally, her body is starting to look 'bent'. If you were to make a line across her body with your finger from mouth to tail-fin, it would be a straight line. Now if you make that same movement from mouth to tail, it bends down as you get closer and closer to the tail region.

Additionally, her tail fin seems to be 'degrading' for lack of a better word.

All other (17) fish are fine. No signs of hunger or loss of weight.

Any ideas?

I think you're right - thanks for the link to the site.

This Kanacyn - have you used it? Are there any precautions. I think this fish is a lost cause, but I'm worried about the other's catching it. They show no signs at the moment.

Thanks,
Todd

Have I used it? No and I'm cranky about it LOL I had a sick neon that I really needed it for and NONE of the lfs carried. I finally found it recently, but haven't had a need to use it *fingers crossed*. I do know lots of folks who have, and it is definitely the antibiotic of choice for those in the know :)

And like any other antibiotic, most fish handle it fine. Your nitrifying bacteria may not tho; I wouldn't treat the entire tank unless another fish starts showing signs as you don't want to muck up your tank. If you do need to treat the tank (if another fish starts showing signs), make sure you keep a close eye on your water parameters.
