Thanks for liking my tank. It has been interesting to see the different tanks on here.
I decided for the first time to make the tank (and the water of course) my priority and the fish and shrimp would then be happy. This is my first venture into small fish & shrimp.
The tank substrate is a type of black soil, not sure of its proper name, and is 3" deep. I got 2 of the biggest bits if bog wood I could fit in. Then just started planting. My other hobby is gardening and I used the same principles, arranging it trying to imagine what it would look like fully grown.
I use Seachem flourish excel daily (normal dose) and Co2 injection at a medium level. It probably only reaches 10ppm saturation - I had to be wary with the shrimps. Lighting is 2 x T8 42" tubes - one aimed at plant growth, one at fish colour. Lighting is on for 13 hours a day. I have been amazed at the plant growth.
The plant fish balance keeps Nitrates at 5 max but i do about 10% water change twice a week to keep it 'fresh'.
Was it expensive? If everything had been brand new then yes but I bought carefully and bought a lot off the Internet - avoiding LFS where ever possible.
Good luck with your aquascaping. Post pics. Cheers. Steve.

Try a few Mystery snails, and best bet are Pond snails, though it is controversial about people who do not like them in their tanks. They don't really have a problem over populating for me.

The really broad piece to the right was cleaned off in about 10 days. This is in a 72G, so it is a BIG piece (there are three pieces total in there.)

This piece had almost an inch of slime to the rear and back, mostly about a 1/4-1/2" Was cleaned in about 2 weeks with 2 Mystery Snails and some Ramshorns. It was harder for the mystery snails to get into the sharp crevices. The Ramshorns took a little longer!

It's a good 15 inches tail and 12 or so wide, has three feet or attached to the rock in three places. it was the size of a silver dollar when I got it. 5 year now

Thank you! I'm planning on adding some Christmas moss and maybe some Anubias to the drift wood. I think I'm going to use it as a grow out tank for baby angels until I can move them to the 55 community. I'm not sure what it's permanent stock will be yet.

Oh my goodness how do you get plants like that and fill it up like that?!?!

Most of them I got from friends. Just a little piece of plant and let them grow out then cut them, move it to another tank, let it grow, cut, move, etc.

I've gotten few plants online as well.

I really don't do anything special. I forget to use ferts half the time :)

But how are they so green?! My plants keep getting weird brown algae on them and every time I rub it off it just comes back! Do u use c02?
