I guess my karma for buying this guy when I shouldn't have is having some dickhead pull out in front of me at an intersection. (Pardon my language.)

This is our red betta (currently unnamed cuz we don't know if it's a male or female) that we saved as a baby from Petco. It was the size of a guppy fry! It's grown beautifully :)
Can anyone tell me if it's a male or female?

Hi, its me...

Cuz is very beautiful, good job raising him.

So from the pic which would be better from closer to see better detail, the thinner or flatter looking the body especially around the "chest" area behind the ventral, or long thin fins in the lower front, would generally be a male. If they get fairly rounded there it is likely a female.

Also the ventral fins will usually grow longer than the Anal and Caudal fins but that takes time. Your pic looks like they are getting longer than the rear lower fins.

So it might be easier to tell as he gets older too, but I think male.

If you see a bubble nest, male!

Thank you so much! I do agree and think it is now a male! Lol.

It really is so rewarding watching him grow beautifully with his amazing colors & full fins. So thank you :)

These were the best close ups I could get. He likes to get face to face with my phone lol
