Return pump?

Question about returning water to my ten gallon and adding a sump/fuge made out of a 5 gallon, could i just use a powerhead? And a pvc overflow for the intake? Want to make a sump as cheap as possible... Currently have a penguin 100 on my ten gallon with some mechanical sponge in it.. And a topfin 30 powerhead with 12 lbs live rock

I doubt you could get the water to flow much using a powerhead if the sump is under the DT. Powerheads won't pump much in terms of head height.
